Stargazing in Southern Nevada

Is it even possible to star gaze with the bright lights of the famous Las Vegas Strip?

Taking a trip to this well lit city is a journey on its own. Hotels, flights, car rentals, just planning can become a hectic pain. With so many options, yet most of them are just full of noise and things that can just be too much at times. With miles of desert actually protected by Dark Sky International, there are options.What if there is something relaxing, something you can meditate to or just wonderful to admire that has a low cost although worth so much! Star gazing in Vegas, it's real.

Because much of what is done is on the strip, you might need a GPS, hydration, red light, cozy blanket, sky app and a car for this one. There are two places I'll be sharing, either West or East of Las Vegas Blvd, but just minutes away. Lets get into them!

Lake Mead National Recreational area is a great place to enjoy going under the night skies by the lake to see the wonders of the stars and the moon. It has been featured in the NASA Night Sky Network because of how clearly the stars can be seen at times. The views from Boulder Beach and Northshore Road can be some of the most beautiful, go 1 and a half hours on the Arizona side to Temple Bar Campground for the smoothest views of the starry sky.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is one of the darkest skies you'll find in the surrounding areas, perfect for stargazing in Nevada.

The best area for viewing is close to State Route 160, south of the Visitor Center & the Scenic Drive. There's a couple trailheads that also provide open views with flat rock areas few miles west of the SR 159 & SR 160 intersection.
